My Daddy always told me: Don’t quit your job until you have another job. It’s easier to get a job, when you already got a job.
I never quit a job before I had another one.
Well, when I was doing stand-up I basically went from job to job every week. Many in my family took that to mean I couldn’t hold a job.
Like my Uncle Festis.
“You get fired every week!” Festis would say. “Ain’t one of them clubs gonna ever keep you on?”
I tried to explain to him that wasn’t the way being a touring comedian worked, but I could never get through to Festis.
I tried to give him crap when he came home from work every day. “Hey, they fire you every day, huh? But then they rehire you?”
“No, idiot. I finished work today. And then I start again tomorrow. That’s how it works.”
“Well see, that’s how it works with me. I do a show every night. Like you go to work every day. But, I finish at my job at the end of the week, and then go on to another job that I already have somewhere else.”
“That ain’t the same thing,” my Uncle would say. “People get fired at the end of the week. That’s what’s happenin’ to you.”
That’s a special kind of stupid.
Anyway, this girl at work. I shouldn’t say girl. #metoo will come after my ass. Although I said something about #metoo in yesterday’s blog and no one came after me. So…
LIGHTEN THE FUCK UP #METOO!
This woman, she’s like 27 or something, she’s quitting, and going into another field. Except, she doesn’t have a job in that field.
I don’t understand why someone around her hasn’t slapped the living shit out of her.
This is a terrible mistake. My friend quit a job because he thought he was being treated poopy, and then didn’t get another one for almost a year. Every interview they asked about his last place of employment, and why he quit. Even though he was sure he was in the right, the story couldn’t help but come off as sour grapes. I’m sure everywhere he applied the people wondered if he’d just quit on them too.
But, if I’m being fair, I guess there’s another way to look at it.
If you apply for another gig when you already have a gig, you look like a disloyal SOB. Companies can’t be happy about hiring a disloyal SOB.
Okay, I’ve confused myself.
Maybe quitting a job without having another job is good. Maybe trying to get a job when you already have a job is bad.
At this point I don’t know whether to shit or go blind.
That’s something Uncle Festis used to say.
Crap. That SOB might have been right all along.
